Hi guys,
As the title suggests, I am an anti-altoholic, if that is a word even. What I mean by that is, I just have little to no motivation whatsoever to level a new character and bring it back to max level.
I have been playing this game since TBC was released, yet I have only ever had one max-level character, which is this one I am currently posting on! I want to change this, because I feel like I am missing out on the fun of experiencing other classes beyond simple knowledge one can obtain from the forums or what my friends have to say about them.
To those of you with a few max level characters, I have a very simple question: What motivates you to level your characters? What motivates you to bring that character to its max level, and even gear it up? Because honestly, to this day, I just cannot seem to motivate myself at all to level other characters and bring them to max level. If you can perhaps just explain it to me, I might find something I can work on in hopes of changing this.

Hello everyone, happy Friday!
I have (once and for all) decided to go back to my old tradition of making weekend goals threads every Friday, so here's the first one after months of nothing! Basically, the idea is to use this thread to discuss your goals for the weekend in this game, or otherwise. So, what are your plans for the weekend then guys? What are your goals? How do you hope to achieve said goals before the end of Sunday? Anything special you'd like to share? Do tell! As for me, I may actually try going back to seeing how many achievements I can gather. I have never really been much into achievement hunting, but I've got the Hagara one in my sight for this! http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/dragonblight/Danellos/achievement#168:a6169 |
There is one, its just in a different place :P |
Not everyone though, but some did especially since Cata. ;p |
The difference is that our client was designed to be used to connect to European realms, and European realms only. I have oftimes seen (on the technical support forum) users getting problems trying to use the same client to connect to both regions (whether its enUS or enGB) - the game data becomes corrupted as a result which is why its not supported... no matter how you edit the config files. This is what I meant by "locale differences".
Interesting to know :p |
Europe = International = use that damn ISO format! (international) This isn't the only game that doesn't use an international date format, and this is an American game at the end of the day. If they used our date format, it would likely create confusion amongst players over at their side as well. Nobody wins with these things. |
Because not all European countries use the same date format I suppose, and this would create even more confusion than necessary. Also, there are enough locale differences they need to deal with between the enGB and enUS client, so having the same date format likely makes it easier to maintain the code base of the game. |
Yeah, I do remember I used to farm quite a few random BGs just before I joined OTG. ;)
|
Your OTG death knight? Since Emerald Dream and Dragonblight are kind of in the same battlegroup... |
I miss your old name. ;< |
OTG's /g chat is just... amazing. :D |
I haven't really met anyone in-game except for the friendly people at Off Topic Generals, but that was by my own initiative months ago. Now THAT is an interesting bunch. I even eventually became their webmaster ^^

To an extent, I see what you are saying here, and you do indeed have a very good point. I do, however, believe that this depends more on how the guild is managed than anything else. Yes, you'll get those that will come along and join a guild only for their perks, but the "community" feeling in a guild also depends on how well it is managed. I believe that if guilds regularly organize internal fun events or raids amongst each other, they'll get to know each other better, nurture friendships, and even develop their own "culture". Usually ordinary guild members don't really see the need to do that, so it is important for the guild's leadership to encourage these activities or organize them themselves. This will help create a great community within the guild itself, regardless of their perks, and may encourage good elements to join the guild (or apply to join) as well. |

You'd be very surprised how many people are still using such systems. My mother still has a laptop with Windows 2000 on it which she still needs to use sometimes, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were still a very small number of WoW players still using Windows 2000 as well. Computer users tend to go by the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", which unfortunately doesn't really help much in the world of computers. Thing is, a lot of Windows 2000 users were getting crashes when Catalcysm came out. This was due to issues in the operating system DLL's. People worked around these crashes by replacing these DLL files, amongst other hacks. However, it appears that the game will cease to work at all on Windows 2000 when MoP comes regardless of these hacks. Windows 3.1? I haz one too. =] |

As much as I know I am throwing myself into the flames here, this is completely wrong. A Blizzard employee will not just wake up one morning, and think "oh, here is a player complaining about population balances and whatnot; let me just press this big shiny button called migration and all problems will be solved." No, sorry, but it just doesn't work that way. When deciding on realm migrations, there are multiple factors they need to take into consideration, some of which I may not even be aware of, but what I know is a deduction made from my own logic. All in all, it all boils down to maintaining balances that have already been made. Take Outland (realm) for example. When migrations were opened for them, there were a few players there expressing their concerns about migrations only being opened to dead or or low populated realms. This is understandable because nobody really wants to be in a dead realm. Some players thus asked for migrations to instead be opened to medium or high populated realms. Yeah, sure, I'd want that too if I were in an overpopulated realm, but let's just be practical here. When one opens migrations to such realms, how long will it be before said realms end up with the same fate as Outland? That would defeat the purpose of a migration. This is just one example of how "just open a migration without second thought" would fail, because they needed to spend time thinking about which realms need to be migrated to as well as from, and consider the current balances that need to be preserved. Now, back on the the situation with Al'akir. I understand that because this is a PVP realm, it is very important that balances are made between the different factions. However, from what I can see in the realmlist, it appears to be a medium populated server. So in terms of numbers, its balanced. In terms of factions, however, it is clearly not balanced. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that this is not good and something should indeed be done. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for a person on a PVP realm to experience such issues with balance. But let's just be fair here, if they simply "open a migration because players demand it", won't that create more disruptions in the general population than what is necessary (by general, I mean all players on this realm as a whole and not just balance between the Horde and Alliance)? Point being, just "opening a migration", without considering the consequences thereof, will create a snowball effect of even bigger problems, such as realm desertion or, maybe the opposite, overpopulation. So what point am I trying to make here with this wall of text that will inevitably get picked apart? Deciding on migrations is not that easy. There are so many factors they take into consideration. Also be aware that their servers are equipped with internal population monitoring software. They are fully aware of population imbalances before anyone even bothers to post about it on the forums. Just be patient, and be rest assured that they are aware of the situation. A fix, however, is not always simple or even immediate. |
I am not a Blizzard employee, I'm just saying that you shouldn't make multiple threads else they'll just end up getting locked by moderators, and it will look bad on your cause here. :) |
You know, you really shouldn't be creating threads on multiple forums about this, as this is not allowed.

Hello,
Now that this thread has finally been redirected to technical support, can you kindly post your DxDiag report so that we can look at this in greater detail? http://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/how-do-i-create-dxdiag-and-msinfo-files If the 64-bit version of the DxDiag report is available (i.e. you have a 64-bit system), please post that one. |
