WoW will no longer be compatible with Windows 2000

blizz -> wysłany:
In preparation for the upcoming release of Mists of Pandaria, updates to World of Warcraft will no longer support Microsoft Windows 2000. Microsoft ceased support for this version of their operating system in 2010. Players still using Windows 2000 are encouraged to upgrade prior to the release of Mists of Pandaria.

windows 2000.. are people still using that? o.O

Up until about 6 months ago, my work PC was windows 2000 :)
Thankfully I now have a bells and whistles Win 7 64bit, I can't imagine anyone trying to play MMO's on Win2K... the mind boggles!

You'd be very surprised how many people are still using such systems. My mother still has a laptop with Windows 2000 on it which she still needs to use sometimes, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were still a very small number of WoW players still using Windows 2000 as well. Computer users tend to go by the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", which unfortunately doesn't really help much in the world of computers.

Thing is, a lot of Windows 2000 users were getting crashes when Catalcysm came out. This was due to issues in the operating system DLL's. People worked around these crashes by replacing these DLL files, amongst other hacks. However, it appears that the game will cease to work at all on Windows 2000 when MoP comes regardless of these hacks.

Windows 3.1?

I still have a machine with that around.

I haz one too. =]
