Wednesday, June 8, is World IPv6 Day, a day when companies and individuals around the world will be working to test their IPv6 support. Blizzard is getting involved, and so can you!
Beginning on June 8, players on the below realms will be able to connect to the game using IPv6. This isn’t a straightforward task and – while not extremely difficult – does involve research to ensure each component of your internet connection supports IPv6, as well as editing a game file with a text editor. While we’d love to have everyone participate, we don’t recommend taking part unless you’re already comfortable with technical aspects of your computer hardware, software, and World of Warcraft. If you aren’t comfortable tackling the task, or run into a snag while trying, don’t worry, we’ll get plenty of testing and you have our thanks for just making yourself more aware of IPv6. If you’d like to know how to get started, or would like more information on what it’s all about, check out our IPv6 page: http://ipv6.blizzard.com/ and FAQ: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=ipv6day The realms that will support IPv6 on June 8 are: Antonidas Anub'arak Blackwater Raiders Bladefist Borean Tundra Cairne Cenarion Circle Cenarius Darrowmere Drak'Tharon Drenden Echo Isles Farstriders Fenris Garrosh Hydraxis Hyjal Korialstrasz Lightbringer Maiev Misha Mok'Nathal Moon Guard Nazgrel Nesingwary Nodrassil Quel'dorei Ravenholdt Rivendare Shandris Shu'halo Sisters of Elune The Forgotten Coast Tortheldrin Uther Vashj Winterhoof Wyrmrest Accord |

Good morning, and thank you for participating in IPv6 day!
The World of Warcraft client tries to detect a valid IPv6 address on your local computer, so if only your modem has it, it very probably won’t work. In order to help us troubleshooting, could you follow these steps on the computer you’re using, and give us the result back? Under Windows, go to the start menu, run, type “cmd” then enter. In the MS-Dos command prompt, type the command “ipconfig” Under MacOS, go to the spotlight, enter “terminal”, and execute that software. In the opened terminal, type the command “ifconfig” For privacy reasons, you may not want to fully copy/paste the IP addresses, but that’d be very helpful for troubleshooting. An IPv6 address looks like the following: 2a01:e0b:1:64:abcd:1234:5678:abcd What we really need is the first four numbers; in that example, that would be 2a01:e0b:1:64. So you can remove safely the second half. ________________________________________________ Technical Support Want to speak with someone directly? http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/about/contact.html How's my driving? https://www.surveymk.com/s/R5D3LCF Check your G-diffuser system! |

Vulphara,
You can actually bypass WoW's check for IPv6 by adding the following in config.wtf: SET enableIPv6 "1" Could you give that a try to force the setting? Even though your setup seems quite common, you might have a case we haven't properly implemented in the IPv6 detection code. ________________________________________________ Technical Support Want to speak with someone directly? http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/about/contact.html How's my driving? https://www.surveymk.com/s/R5D3LCF Check your G-diffuser system! |

Quirk,
We're interested in seeing a trace route to the IPv6 servers if you could provide one. From a command or terminal window use the command provided below: 1. MS : tracert -6 ipv6.blizzard.com or tracert -6 2001:1890:e000:c01:dad3:85ff:fed9:ce24 2. Mac OS : traceroute6 ipv6.blizzard.com or traceroute6 2001:1890:e000:c01:dad3:85ff:fed9:ce24 3. Linux : traceroute6 ipv6.blizzard.com or traceroute6 2001:1890:e000:c01:dad3:85ff:fed9:ce24 I've included the command for other OSs if others would like to provide the information as well. ________________________________________________ Technical Support Want to speak with someone directly? http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/about/contact.html How's my driving? https://www.surveymk.com/s/R5D3LCF Check your G-diffuser system! |

Teloraelin ,
The file you edit is your config.wtf file. We routinely have people make changes to that file while troubleshooting. It isn't a game file, it's just a text file holding settings. You won't have any policy issues editing it. ____________________________________________________________ Account and Technical Services Mon-Fri 12pm-8pm Feel free to rate my services at the following link: https://www.surveymk.com/s/T8S7BX2 "A Lannister always pays his debts." |
