Recent PvP Rewards Hotfix” wysłany:
Since the release of Patch 6.2, we’ve gotten a ton of feedback regarding the Champion’s Strongboxes rewarded from Ashran and Rated Battlegrounds. We’ve been discussing that feedback heavily since the patch released, and wanted to take a moment to clarify some confusion as well as share an upcoming change.

To start, we’d like to clarify exactly what can be found inside a Champion’s Strongbox, as some (though certainly not all) players seemed to be anticipating items that they’d never have been able to get from the Strongboxes anyway:

  • Strongboxes can never reward items that can be purchased with Conquest Points.
  • Strongboxes can never reward cloaks, necks, or rings.
  • Strongboxes can never reward items with set bonuses.

With that said, we definitely recognize that the Strongbox rewards (or rewards from any box, for that matter) are unclear, and that’s something we’re looking to improve upon in the future.

In addition, we’re currently in the process of applying a hotfix that will remove the Versatility belts, boots, and bracers from the Strongboxes, and make them available on the Conquest vendors instead. Once this hotfix is active, Champion’s Strongboxes will only reward helms, chestpieces, gloves, shoulders, and legs, as well as the Accolade random stat trinkets. Remember that armor pieces earned from Strongboxes do not grant set bonuses, so most players will only want to equip one of those pieces.

We feel that this change will allow there to still be a benefit to earning the Champion’s Strongboxes over the course of the season, but due to the fact that you’ll still want to complete your set bonuses, that benefit will be a little extra flexibility in gearing choices instead of simply having Versatility items another player may not have won. This also greatly increases the chances of earning a desirable item from your Strongbox (at least, until you have everything you want from them) by reducing the overall number of possible items you could get.

Thanks again for all of the feedback on this topic. We’re hopeful that this change will greatly improve the gearing experience in Warlords Season 2, and are taking all of your feedback to heart as we plan for future seasons.
Changes to Conquest catch-up cap” wysłany:
As of this week’s reset, we’ve made a change to how the Conquest catch-up cap is calculated that should result in a 50% increase to the catch-up portion of the cap. We’re making this change because, while we still want there to be an incentive to play early and often, the amount of Conquest that a player could earn via that catch-up cap didn’t feel like enough once the PvP season had been active for a while.

To elaborate, the formula used to calculate a player’s catch-up cap is now:
<Number of weeks passed in the season> × 1500 - <Total amount of Conquest earned this season>

That number is then added to the weekly total cap of 1700. Note that, as of this post, Warlords Season 1 has been active for 18 weeks, which means the maximum possible catch-up cap for a player that has not earned any Conquest points this season is 28,700 Conquest.
Upcoming Dungeon Changes and Hotfixes” wysłany:
Thanks for all the feedback on these changes. As a team, we do prefer personal loot as a solution for Dungeon Finder groups, which is why we modified and extended the system we’ve had in place for Raid Finder. We heard from sources both within our team and the community that the experience of defeating a boss and no ceremony beyond three gold on its corpse, or the possibility of finishing an entire dungeon without seeing any items, felt flat and even a bit broken. Based on those concerns, we decided to roll back a system that had been in place for a week to a system that had been in use for years, while we continued to polish and refine the personal loot system to deliver an optimal experience to players. However, we underestimated the impact and positive elements of personal loot, in terms of reducing contention and drama in random match made groups.

We have now applied a hotfix that will do two things:

  • The default loot system for Dungeon Finder groups is once again Personal, instead of Need Before Greed. Full premade groups that prefer the latter system can select it manually, as always.
  • We've increased loot yield from the final boss of each dungeon.
    • With Personal loot active, each player in a group will now always receive an item from the final boss.
    • With Need Before Greed active, the boss will now drop 3 items to be shared among the group as desired, up from 2 previously.
Game Time Being Applied” wysłany:
The 5 days of free game time mentioned in the letter from J. Allen Brack is on its way out. As a reminder this is for players in the Americas, Oceania, and Europe who had active subscriptions as of Friday, November 14. We expect the process to take a full day to apply to all accounts that met the requirement.

We will soon begin limited testing on updates to some Battle.net functionality (mainly communication and login). As a part of this process, you may notice some minor Battle.net-related UI changes while logged in to Diablo III, World of Warcraft, and StarCraft II.

Patch 1.0.6 for Diablo III includes some of the data for this testing but will not impact your play experience. Similar testing-related data will be patched into World of Warcraft and StarCraft II in the future.

Please note that at this stage the testing is limited, but we’ll keep everyone updated and invite you to help us test the changes as soon as we can. We look forward to sharing more information about what’s in store for Battle.net in the future, so stay tuned.
Conquest Point Cap Clarification” wysłany:
There has been some confusion lately regarding how Conquest Points are capped by the way that they’re earned. Conquest Point caps are divided into three categories.

  • Rated Battlegrounds – The default Conquest Point cap for Rated Battlegrounds is set at 1650, and this can be raised with an increased Rated Battlegrounds rating. This cap is higher by default to reflect the greater challenges presented by organizing and participating in Rated Battlegrounds.
  • Arenas – The default Conquest Point cap for Arenas is 1350, and this can be increased by earning a higher Arena Team rating.
  • Random Battlegrounds – The default Conquest Point cap for points earned from doing Random Battlegrounds is actually dependent on the other two. It will rise to match whichever of the other two Conquest Point caps is lower. For example: if a player does no Rated Battlegrounds, but has raised their weekly Conquest Point cap to 2000 via a high Arena Team Rating, then the Random Battlegrounds cap will be 1650 to match the cap provided by Rated Battlegrounds.
It’s important to note that this is not a recent change. This capping system has been in place since World of Warcraft: Cataclysm patch 4.2. A recent hotfix resolved an issue that allowed players to gain Conquest Points via random Battlegrounds up to the higher of the two point caps, which was not intended.

Raid Finder Loot Rules Update” wysłany:
In response to concerns regarding how loot will be distributed in the Raid Finder system, we are making some changes to how loot rolls will work when using the Need Before Greed system in the Raid Finder. When using Raid Finder for the Dragon Soul raid instance, players whose currently assigned class role (Tank, Healer or Damage) matches the class role that a piece of armor or a weapon is flagged for will receive +100 to their Need roll. For purposes of this check, your currently assigned role is defined as the class role you have assigned when a boss is defeated. Sound confusing? I hope not, but here’s how it’ll work:

    • A boss dies and drops EPIC TANKING ITEM.

    • A mage in the group yawns and clicks the ‘Greed’ button, getting a 98.

    • A Fury warrior in the group wants to take up tanking, so he rolls ‘Need’ and gets a solid 64.

    • Both tanks want the item. Tank 1 rolls a 12, and Tank 2 rolls a 7.

    So what happens?

Because the mage rolled greed, she’s right out from the start. The Fury warrior’s Need roll was higher than the tanks’, but he was in the Damage Dealer role when the boss died, and the item is flagged for tanking, so his 64 is still just a 64 out of a possible 100. In contrast, Tank 1 and Tank 2 each get a 100 point bonus to their rolls because they were in the Tanking role when the boss died and they’re rolling on an item that has been flagged for the tanking role. That means that Tank 1 rolled a 112 out of 200, and tank 2 rolled a 107 out of 200. Tank 1 wins the item! If a roll got a bonus, that bonus will be clearly displayed in the chat log.

Please keep in mind that, at least for now, this system will only look at class role, and not player spec. This bonus isn’t only for tanking items either — it applies to Tanking, Damage Dealing and Healing items, and some items are flagged for more than one class role too. Starting out, only Dragon Soul raid items will be flagged for class roles in this way (though all of the items in the raid will be flagged for one or more roles). As you might expect, all the normal Need Before Greed rules are still in place, so that means that these roll bonuses won’t overrule normal class and usability restrictions. Item tooltips in the raid won’t reflect which class roles will get rolling bonuses, but it should be fairly obvious based on stat allocations and item type.

We are considering expanding this system to apply to the new 4.3 dungeons as well, though it is unlikely that we’ll see the system apply to older dungeons or raids for now. Also, please keep in mind that this system is newly minted, and it may see further changes before it’s released with the Raid Finder in patch 4.3.
