As two options are available for those who’d like to guarantee their copy of World of Warcraft: Legion, we wanted to take a moment to explain the difference between pre-purchasing and pre-ordering the game. Pre-purchasing can be done directly through the Battle.net Shop or at select retailers, and involves paying for the expansion in full in advance. Pre-purchasing through Battle.net will automatically grant your account the instant Level 100 Character Boost, as well as early access to the new Demon Hunter hero class before the game’s release. If you pre-purchase through retail, you’ll receive a digital game key (usually in the form of a PIN on receipt) that you can apply to your Battle.net account to receive the pre-purchase perks.
Pre-ordering involves reserving a physical copy of the game at retail, with either a small deposit or no advance payment, which won’t grant you the pre-purchase perks. Collector’s Edition copies of Legion are only available for pre-order, and not pre-purchase. We know that many of you are interested in getting your character boost now and early access to the new Demon Hunter before launch, and that many of you are also planning to get the Collector’s Edition of Legion as well. To help you do both, we’ve set up a process similar to the one for Warlords of Draenor to receive a replacement Legion game key once you upgrade to the Collector’s Edition. Just follow these steps:
