Open and Flowing Robes

blizz -> wysłany:
With all of the creative innovation going into WoD. I feel it is time to bring up the subject of open and flowing robes.

The graphical updates to our characters are making our clothes look less compatible with our being. They are static as we move, and it looks unnatural. Blizzard took a step in the right direction by adding 3D pants, clothes with their own spell animations (CM gear), and 3D belt buckles. Now it is time for the next step, which is the 3D robes.

The new Thrall model, in my opinion, has been the alpha stage of open and flowing robes. Here he is in WoD: http://www.wowhead.com/news=233947/warlords-of-draenor-modelviewer-new-3d-models-and-warlords-character-models#modelviewer:1:53057:0:10+0

I'm not saying that we should replace every single old robe model with something new. What I am saying is that blizzard should make a few new robes and intersperse throughout the levels as quest rewards, random drops, boss drops, or vendor items. Whatever floats your boat. Perhaps base them on some of the old models and their recolors.

Other option: They could be completely cosmetic, and used as coats to go over your current chest item. That way they wouldn't be limited to just the casters (and a few melees). This could open up more possibilities, and possibly be customizable in color, pattern, trim, etc...

Possible issues:
Clipping
Model Differences causing clipping
Causing system requirements to increase slightly.
(will expand this later)

While I can't say we have anything to announce regarding robes specifically, in the "casting animation" video from the recent Artcraft showing off how we're animating the male Tauren, you can see some of the physics-based cloth animation we're moving toward: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43FPKPN9e0c It has the potential to open up some options in the future for gear designs.

Increasing armor detail, geometry, and incorporating new tech is definitely something we continue to explore. As you said, interaction between new items and new tech with the old is certainly one of the bigger hurdles, but not necessarily an insurmountable one.
