Maybe I'm dumb, but I didn't realize this until now.
In the reply window, there's a faint triangle in the lower right corner. If you drag that triangle up or down, you actually can adjust the size of the reply window. (If you have NoScript, I assume you have to allow battle.net for it to work)
I hope I'm not the only one who didn't know this already.
