It's absolute nostalgia. For me it was spending years in a fantasy world of swords and dragons and then walking through a magical portal into space and (tempered) science fiction. It was that amazement of exploring a rich new world, which I think Pandaria also completely nailed. It just hasn't had that five-or-whatever years to simmer in my brain meats and morph into whatever idealistic vision I want it to be.
I would have thought you could only capture that amazement once, that Burning Crusade was unique in that it was the first expansion, and thus had all the benefits of being the first of a lot of things. But somehow Mists of Pandaria captured that wonderment again for me. Not sure how exactly... Wizards did it. |
