Something has been bothering me for some time now, and ive decided to put it down on the forums so the forum folks can discuss or flame as they see fit.
Why does no one help anyone else?
Let me explain. My wife was doing her dailies in Pandaria when she was suddenly swamped by enemies. Instead of turning round and helping a fellow alliance member the mage near her ran past collected the item she was trying to clear for and then laughed at her.
She ofc ends up dead on the floor. But then a paladin that was stood there just walked on by and did nothing to res her.
Now here comes the flame, You see i like playing these sorts of games and in GW2 ( flame commences now ) Everyone helps everyone else. you see a person in trouble you pitch in. there dead on the floor you raise em up. And more than that people say "Thank you". God forbid anyone in wow to actually say ty for any kind of help.
Now i understand that with the awful taggin system only one person can get any loot but that shouldnt stop people from helping out. Heck ive even been had a go at because i helped a warlock that was getting his bottom handed to him by a group of vermin.
" F you you Fing F for interfereing you Fing F" almost direct quote.
So i ask again why the unwillingness to help?
Is it just that they wont get any loot?
Btw is unwillingness a word or just something that sounds right?
Hello Carlieth,
While it’s unfortunate that you had such an experience, certainly you must have had some positive ones too? I think it’s generally accepted that we tend to naturally focus more on the negative side of things; the positive stuff just doesn’t stick around for too long in our neurons unless it’s something truly exceptional. What I mean to say is that sometimes when something good happens in the game we tend to disregard it and take it for granted as that is just how it’s supposed to be, but good actions are not passive actions, they take some good will and “effort” or “willingness” from other players and personally I still see this all the time in game. Sometimes we also assume the worst out of people and that has a tendency to spread, I’ll give you an example, “ninja need rolls” in LFD seem to be quite a hot topic nowadays because of how the LFD looting system works, still, I’d say that probably around 95% of my personal experience in LFD is “ninja” free, and sometimes what seems like pure greediness has some logical reasoning behind it that you might or might not agree to. For example, someone might have just pressed “need” thinking that no one else needed the item simply because some players aren’t seeing each other’s rolls (they don’t know about the /loot window), and even if that player had the intention of trading the item back in case someone said it was for his main spec, sometimes that won’t happen because players often tend to immediately jump into being offensive towards the supposed “ninja”, and that will lead to that person to become less willing to say sorry and give the item back, most likely that person will just retract from giving the item back and keep it for himself after such a show of rude behaviour. Still the vast majority of players I actually encounter in LFD behave perfectly normal and are nice to each other, I just take that behaviour for granted and when something bad happens it’s easy to get a distorted perspective on the proportion of things. I couldn’t agree more with these two quotes:
Hope you give the the WoW community another chance and hopefully it will be a pleasant one. From some of the answers that you can see here I think it's easy to tell that not every player is like that and trust me, forums are not the best indicator of general player's behaviour. (we murlocs thrive on a troll diet!) Cheers! |
