Danish or Scandinavian realms?

blizz -> wysłany:
Hello..

So yeah, me and alot of my friends have been thinking of will here ever come any danish or scandinavian realms?. This would be totally awesome, since italy now got their own realm :)
I doubt denmark would get their own realm for their maybe 300.000 wow players, if not less. Therefore maybe scandinavian realms?..

This is just a suggestion, please post what you think. Don't post negative stuff just cause you aren't scandinavian ^^

I laugh so hard when I try to translate English fantasy themed words, monsters etc. to Danish. It's just wrong. Danish wasn't invented for fantasy stuff :p

Dødvinge...

It's just not as good :P

Indeed.

Could you imagine this line in the chat on a Danish realm?: "De der kernehunde i Smeltede Kerne er altså fede kæledyr til jægere"

*shudders*

It is of course not my intent to squish anyone’s hope of more language realms, be they Scandinavian or otherwise.

We will certainly not exclude the possibility of opening realms in more languages if it makes sense for us to do so. Localising World of Warcraft to more languages is a major undertaking though, and it involves a hell of a lot more work and resources than just opening a realm and slamming a language tag on it. It is absolutely essential that the playerbase of any given language is large enough so that it is meaningful to make the game available in said language. :-)

No, but I could imagine "De der helvedshunde i Flammedybet er fine jagtdyr for jægere."

Direct translations tend to sound silly. Try translating some common Danish sentences into English. It would be possible to do a usable Danish version of WoW. Probably not easy, but doable. But it would require skilled translators.

True enough, direct translations are not the way to go when localising to another language, but direct translations are more fun to say than the proper translations ;-)

In all seriousness though, World of Warcraft has been localised already several times to other languages and it has been a huge endeavour to do this every time. One of the reasons why it is such a huge endeavour is exactly because the translation of the game has to be done right and not merely directly translated... the essence of the game must not be lost in translation, so a lot of care goes into our localisation efforts.
