Our login system has detected a change...

blizz -> wysłany:
Thanks to one great poster at mmo-c (otherwise full of scum), I can now post on the official forums.

Just a few moments ago, I tried to login to World of Warcraft. Maybe I was going to bot whiptail, or maybe I was going to you know, not break the rules.

But then, I got this message:

"Our login system has detected a change in your access patterns."

I play at different houses. It is me playing every time. I have an authenticator token on my keychain I bought for 6 dollars. There is no possible way that anyone could have hacked my account.

So, my account was locked and I was lost. I cried, raged, and cried. I went to the link the error message gave me (us.battle.net/account/support/password-reset), and thusly found nothing that applied to me. So I did a quick google search, and found multiple blues saying I should call and ask. I will not go into details, but that was not an option for me.

So I decided to make a thread on mmo-c, and while wadding through the flame, I found one poster who gave me the answer no one else would. Lie and just reset your password. How novel, lying. Of course, the error message says to reset my password but the link provided did not give ample information that pertained to my situation.

Not only is the extra security unwarranted and unnecessary, but is fundamentally flawed in that the link from the error message does not provide ample information. It is ridiculous that this actually exists, and also is completely random (I've never been in the same house for more than two weeks for the past 5 years of playing WoW, and this is the first error message I have received.) but it is also ridiculous that the "help" provided is not helpful at all.

Not only that! But the actual restriction of the account without breaking any rules seems unlawful to me. I did not break any rules by logging into a different IP address, but my account was still locked. I know that it is not "my" account, but I definitely pay for it, and I definitely want a good reason for locking it. This was not a good reason. It was definitely a good reason before the authenticator was released (at least for some people, not me) and I would not be upset if that was the case. But it's not, I have an authenticator, that should be all the security I need.

That is not completely accurate, Gungbrah. While the Authenticator does add an extra level of security, it does not make your account invulnerable.

I think that statement is a little unfair if a claim when you say that you are unwilling, for your own reasons that I will not ask you to go into, to use the contact information that we provide, and ask that you utilize should you require assistance in such a situation. Please understand that the locking of account(s) in this manner is not an attempt to punish the owner of the account . It is a security measure to help ensure that the account did not fall in to the hands of someone that is not the account owner.

Keep in mind that only two people are EVER allowed to access an account (from the moment the account is created to the end of time). The first is the person who set up the account in their own name (you aren't allowed to set up an account in any name other than your own legal name). The second is one (1) of the children or trustees (under age 18) of the first person. Not siblings, not parents, not spouses, not friends, not strangers.

That being said, you may not purchase, sell, gift or trade any Account, or offer to purchase, sell, gift or trade any Account, and any such attempt shall be null and void. Blizzard owns, has licensed, or otherwise has rights to all of the content that appears in the Game. These rules are as stated in the Terms of Use agreement which can be found here: (http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/legal/wow_tou.html).
