Blizzard did no such thing. They purged a lot of the archeology bots, and got some of the people who used the same bots in BGs.
Blizzard did say they have some measures that they will, or just recently implemented to increase their detection of BG botters and afkers.
Still, do your part and report the offenders via in game tickets.
There are several people on my server who have been reported by countless people as botters/exploiters for years, and their accounts are still fine and dandy. The "warden" program was effective at stopping D2 Baal bots for a short period of time but has never been shown to be effective or even real on WoW.
With a program that violates end user privacy by monitoring our processes while the game is open, it sure doesn't work well if we, the spied on end user, must report said botters to the company that claims to have an anti-bot program running to have anything done.
Add a Report as botter option, and let people explain why someone is a bot. If you collect repeated reports then take action against said person. The current - let me click this red ?, click a random problem button, then try and type out this dudes name and figure out what server hes from, then say hes botting!!!!!!!!!
People with Prat can copy paste ASCII names but what about the majority of the casuals who play using blizzards standard UI?
We’re in the process of stepping up our detection and tracking to log and action players that are botting, or habitually AFKing in the Battlegrounds. We’ll be taking aggressive action and removing earned items, Honor Points, and ultimately suspending or even banning accounts of those that are found to be botting or habitually AFKing. It’s a sophisticated level of monitoring we’re undertaking. No one actively playing in the Battlegrounds normally should be concerned that they’ll be actioned.
That is my view. The amount of effort and constant reporting one must do to actually get 1 bot banned is very involved and frustrating.
When automating most of it by using statistical analysis of one actions would go a very long way into finally dealing with the mass of them.
Unfortunately, this is not an easy task as it may seem and your help with reporting these players is appreciated. We are currently working on a solution as Bashiok stated above.
Thing is, we need a better report system. It's very frustrating to lose a battleground because the report afk system doesn't work because bots just keep spamming some skill. Some sort of vote to kick could work beautifully
This feedback should go under battleground or general forums, unfortunately, developers do not read this forum.
Please keep reporting them, our game masters will investigate and take appropriate actions towards any players that are identified as AFK botting.
You mean opening tickets are reporting? because the in game "report player afk" option is garbage. I used to bg a lot, but for the most part I gave up on it after coming to the conclusion that it's not worth my time. Since I had to literally beg people in the bg to report the player, then wait for two mins and hope they don't get into combat. Though even opening tickets is kind of pointless. I remember a long (months ago) while back I had a ticket open for days that I just kept adding names until I reached the char limit.
Then unfortunately, you will keep seeing these players botting in your battlegrounds, since they are not being reported.
What if we can specifically identify a specific person multiple times? I remember reporting a person herb botting multiple times and basically was told something like "please refrain from making multiple reports on the same person". Does this mean I was not supposed to? Or was this more of "you don't have to keep reporting because we're already investigating this person"?
Thanks.
It means that they have acknowledged your reports and the player is under investigation.
I never understood why Blizzard doesn't take a more hard-lined approach to players who "bot" in battlegrounds.
The player who bots, has to undertake and execute a long line of actions that severely damages not only the play experience for the community, but also "hacks" the game in a manner of speaking.
Yet, the penalty for doing that is the removal of easy to earn honor points and some gear, maybe a three hour suspension?
The actions we take against botters when identified is account closure, however, this is not public information.
The response is "Ah, just recently we have started to do something about it......"
Actually, we have been doing something about it for a long time, Buzzbomb. Unfortunately, as I stated before this is something that is not announced publicly.
This feedback should go under battleground or general forums, unfortunately, developers do not read this forum.
This is actually quite boggling if the devs don't really know this is what's happening.
Edit because I have sent in a ticket regarding bots. I got some canned response that basically asked me to deal with it as they try to work towards a solution but never actually mentioned that anything I reported was helpful. I think your canned response should change a bit to reflect this rather than plead with me to not quit.
My canned response was to direct the player to post the feedback in the appropriate forum, it does not state what the developers know or not.
Then unfortunately, you will keep seeing these players botting in your battlegrounds, since they are not being reported.
K, then why not get some more game masters so it does not take days to get an automated response? what, am I supposed to just stop doing bgs once my ticket runs out of space because they don't get looked into in a reasonable amount of time?
You need a certain number of players, I'm guessing a percentage?, to get somone marked inactive...
Can you give us some insight as to what actually has to happen to get a player marked "inactive"??
Because the community is at the point where they think it's pointless to right click , 'report player afk' to get them booted, so if I'm the only one reporting to initiate the kick, they will never get kicked, never be discouraged and IN FACT be ENCOURAGED to BOT.
If your 'inactive' debuff requires a certain percentage of players to become active, do you consider that perhaps 4/10 players are bots abd your % is based on 10, and not 6? lol...
No BOT will participate in the vote :)
TLDR Make it easier to inflict a BOT with the 'inactive' debuff.
Unfortunately, this is just your opinion and not actual fact. Feedback does not belong in this forum.
Has the inability to report players who are dead been fixed yet? A lot of the botters/habitual afkers I run into will die at the start of the BG and then cancel the rezes/move away from the graveyard and render themselves immune to being kicked for the rest of the BG.
Even though these players are working around the Idle debuff, the report sent to us is still investigated.
Why not? Wait, yes, I know, privacy, but hang on a sec... Why not? Players don't know other players' actual names, or addresses, or other information, unless those players choose to make that information public. If a player makes a new account, they have to choose to claim to be the banned account, at which point they're likely shunned by the majority of players. What's the harm in announcing closed accounts that players can no longer access?
I do not know, but Austin seem closest to ya! You should come help us out. \(^.~)/
If I were a single and without a mortgage, I might take you up on that, but it's a little harder than that to pack up and move, especially to Texas. >_> Not that opening up a new service center is a trivial undertaking but... oh well. : \
And pass this on to the policymakers, perhaps? I'm not sure where I would go to suggest ban announcements.
General forums and well, maybe in the future! :)
Thank you for proving my point.
You call them a BOT, you call them AFK, it's irrelevant.
The player base needs a more effective way to report via a ticket a player who is not participating. It is not for us to decide the punishment.
ALL I WANT is for the person to LEAVE the battleground as FAST as possible.
The players need better tools to help Blizzard who repeatedly admit they can not police EVERY aspect of the game.
The 'inactive' debuff needs to be aplpied faster and with far FAR fewer votes. The inactive debuff is easily cleared through PVP combat, so it shouldn't be abused.
You're arguing the semantics in that we really DONT know WHY this character is exhibiting the non participating behavior. I DONT CARE. If their CAT is crawling on the keyboard while the person is making SOUP, we need to be able to KICK that player FASTER.
..And again your feedback belongs in the Battleground forum, not in the customer support forums in this thread. If this continues I will be forced to lock this thread, thank you.

Thanks for the info. While not ideal (I would, of course, prefer that these jerks get removed from the BGs when they get reported), I'm glad that at least you're aware of the problem.
You're welcome, Sumati. I completely understand the situation as a fellow pvp'r, please do not be discouraged from reporting these players, even if they bypass the idle debuff. Thank you for your help. :)
