Sad Community

blizz -> wysłany:
I have been informed in the past that the population of WoW in whole is difficult to get a read on based on the forums. The forums, however, are the only tool a player has to voice his or her own opinion.
More and more opinions have been to the effect of;
"Buff us, nerf them,"
"My guild is dying,"
"All of the healers are quitting,"
"Screw this game, I'm leaving,"
and so on.

Of course, the blanket "less QQ more PewPew,or "Working as intentded" applies to all of these problems, but I would like to know;

Is Blizzard at all concerned with the evident disatisfaction in the Forum Community?

Edit: This thread has gone a long way in defining alot of generalizations regarding Customer interaction with the Developers. Please at least view my recap on page 3, and include any constructive ideas you may have.

What can we do to stop the community from flaming Blizzard?

Simply put, you can't. "Flaming Blizzard" is a violation of the code of conduct and posting guidelines, so you can report those posts if you wish. Regardless, it's probably just as useful, if not more so, to choose to be a positive influence in the threads you participate in, and help guide the conversation in constructive directions.

I'm trying to be a proper customer, using the tools I have to try and get some information without offending everyone, but this speculation is all that is within my power.

I think I can understand that. There are some things we're just not prepared to talk about though, for a variety of reasons. I appreciate that people are curious because they care and they're interested. There will still be topics that we're extremely unlikely to discuss.

It would make sense to say that Blizzard steers clear of the community because of the anger and unreasonable demands... it would literally be impossible to make everyone happy at the same time.

We don't steer clear of the community though. We bring information back from the developers on a pretty consistent basis, and we communicate new information on both the forums and the blog. It can be easy to miss, but you can search author:name to find posts by Bashiok, Nethaera, Lylirra, Daxxarri, Zarhym, etc. It doesn't hurt to check the blogs, since new content is posted every day.

Anger doesn't dissuade us, though we do try to avoid rewarding "bad" behavior with a response, when there are constructive threads which might merit a response more. On the other hand, merely because a conversation is constructive doesn't guarantee that we'll reply either. As I've mentioned in the past, if there's a particularly good conversation going, we may avoid posting precisely because blue posts can be a lightning rod for negativity and disrupt the ongoing discussion.

How can I, or anyone in the community, prove to Blizzard that i'm willing to read, learn, and provide feedback, without resorting to absolute nerd rage?

Just keep posting constructively. Even if you don't glean a blue response, you'll likely have a better, more enlightening and more entertaining forum experience.

Does that bother anyone else? I would like to know more about the inner workings of the game I pay 15 dollars every month for.

This will probably come across as harsh, but I think it's important to set expectations here:

The forums exist primarily to provide players a locale to discuss World of Warcraft with each other, not to solicit developer responses or Community Manager posts. We recognize the value of the forums as a source of feedback, and we enjoy sharing information here too, but if you are creating a post with the sole intention of getting a blue response, in most cases you'll be disappointed.

That said, I can try to answer some of the questions you've asked:

      Is Blizzard concerned about the general discontent on the forums?

      We're interested in all the feedback posters provide, both positive and negative. It's been reasonably constant that the forums are a place for players to express their concerns and desires for change - as a result, negative feedback is the norm rather than the exception.

      Can anything be done to increase civil developer-customer interaction? Suggest.

      Post constructively here, as well as within the class roles forum, but as I mentioned earlier, it's probably best not to expect developer interaction and instead focus on the ideas.

      Is the forum a truly representitive sample space? Probably not, but this doesn't mean that the recent changes to the game haven't generally increased discontent.

      Change increases discontent. We're listening though, and we're paying close attention as always.
