Like everyone else in the world, I'm getting older.
As I grow older I've noticed a lot of changes. I no longer bomb down highway 401 at 170km/h, AC/DC or Rage Against the Machine blaring, raging at left land bandits (anyone in the left hand lane doing less than 140 who won't get the **** out of my way). Now I set the cruise control at 120 and sit in the middle lane and listen to Florence and the Machine.
I'm a couple of months past my 45th birthday and with Cata I've noticed something. My healing reflexes are going, hell even my aim with the cursor is going. I've had to make my grid larger after mis-clicking on two emergency oh-crap heals (I clicked on the adjacent player frame....sorry Winter).
That being said you can teach an old dog new tricks. The change in reflexes has forced me to actually be a better healer. I now know what's coming and how I need to compensate for it, instead of just reacting....a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.
That being said, on Christmas day I kicked my 11 y.o nephew's rear playing Black Ops (because it was a bit formulaic and I knew where the bad guys were going to come out of.
What's that saying? Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill
How are other older gamers finding it? Has anyone retired from raiding because of age?

I've noticed that I should not wake up on a cold day and go directly into a Lady Gaga dance with my Kinect or I will hurt my neck/back.

I don't think I've slowed down any. I've only noticed that I'm less concerned over being "top" and more concerned with having some fun and being a productive member of a guild or group. When I mess up, I tell people and don't cover it up with excuses either. I'm more patient with some things and less with others as well. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're only as old as you feel, and I'm feelin' fine. I won't start aging until I quit gaming, so I have awhile yet. ;) *I too would also like to see a video of Bashiok dancing to Lady Gaga. |
