Questions for you computer savvy tech gurus!

blizz -> wysłany:
So just a basic rundown to get an idea of where to start. I have an old computer (2005 era) it's served me well and in that time frame bought RAM, a new PSU and I once had a nice PCI-E video card from 2008.

So basically put, after 2 years of no problems, it fried my video card. I was upset, but I had an old back up one available (also a PCI-E) so I re-installed that, it has just recently fried that too. Now I have no video cards capable of playing ANY sort of games, this onboard video barely allows me to scroll through the internet.

My question is, I am going to buy a filler card (60 bucks or so) just so I can play WoW, but I am afraid that it will just burn this out too so how can I troubleshoot my system to find out what the cause is whether it's a faulty PSU or a faulty PCI-E slot. My PSU is a 500W supply if that is needed for any other info.

Check the physical motherboard itself, mainly the capacitors. They're supposed to be flat and with nothing yellowish coming out of the top. Motherboards that fry video cards tend to have them being bloated on the top or have yellow stuff on them. But then there's an issue where the power supply could be bad too to cause that, or just have a bad 12v rail that went to your old video card thru the back of the card.
