I don’t often read the forums. But when I do, I am struck by the constant griping and complaining in the community. Why? You spend countless hours playing this game, enjoying this game. If you didn’t enjoy it, you wouldn’t play it. Right? I don’t play games I don’t enjoy. I didn’t play twister in high school because girls scared me. (a little honesty never hurts). So, I would like to put my two cents in concerning a couple of things. The first is player skill level.
Player skill level sets people’s pants on fire. Not entirely sure why. Look at my toon on the armory. Oh no! I’m a tank with a dps belt. I, obviously, don’t know how to play my class, right? I run a decent progression guild, I never played Vanilla, and I could tank your socks off. Don’t believe me, invite me to your pug, but don’t be surprised if I forget righteous fury….
This game is inherently difficult, as it should be. It takes time to learn how to play your class. It takes work to play your class. I truly believe I can teach anyone how to tank. Now, whether they are able to execute is a different story. Just like in so many areas of life, those who wish to learn and master a skill must put the time and effort such a feat requires. I didn’t do a single heroic in BC, but by the end of Wrath had no trouble downing the Lich King. What I think people tend to forget is how long it took THEM to reach the apex of their game. Have patience with noobs. They make up a huge part of this game, and if you expect to play wow long into the future, you should rejoice that there are still noobs playing.
Which leads very nicely into my second opinion. Everyone whines and complains that the content is too easy or the content is too difficult. I think Blizzard has done a tremendous job balancing the difficulties of dungeons and raids, while still making all content accessible to old and new players alike. Maintaining this balance, I imagine, probably gives them headaches (and you know Activision would be greatly upset if a huge chunk of subscribers decided to leave…so they are probably stressed too.)
Leveling is easier because there are 85 levels to progress through. Dinging is satisfying to say the least, who wouldn’t’ want to do it more often. And, who wants to be stuck in Outland when all your buddies are chillin in Vash or Hyjal or any number of new zones.
Raid and dungeons should be hard. You should expect to wipe when working through heroic dungeons and raids. My guild after weeks of working on bosses will still have trouble. Maybe that’s why it is called raid “progression”.
“Noobifying” wow. That has to be the dumbest statement I have ever heard. They are making WoW more accessible to all levels and skills, which they should do. If you want to be part of a private club, go to Yale, become a millionaire, or start your own game. We have had a tremendous time playing this game, shouldn’t we hope for the same for all those people who log on for the first time? You remember that, don’t you? There have been very few gaming moments in my life, where I felt WoWed, and that was one of them.
My hat's off to Blizzard. Every month on the Fifteenth I pay my dues to be a part of this wonderful community. Everybody just needs to stop whining….
