Yup, he won the recent Blizzard-sponsored voting. It's more of a "community spotlight" type video than an advertisement.

Correct! When and where we can we like spotlighting members of our community who have a positive impact on their peers and create compelling content. Hopefully it's something we can continue to do. :)

We just think some in the community could benefit from being exposed to the creativity of others out there. If we have additional opportunities to inform and entertain the community with content from their peers, we think that's a good thing.
If this doesn't apply to you or you're not interested in being a part of it, we're certainly not forcing you to click on anything in the launcher -- and never have -- to play the game, other than the button to launch the game of course!

There are members of the community that are a positive influence that don't give you free PR. There are a plethora of good and helpful players that go ignored because they don't give you free advertising... I mean create compelling content.
We're not ignoring other content creators or positive influences in the community by not including them all at once in this highlight. Surely that's not an abstract conclusion.

No but in 8 years I have never seen you guys spotlight anyone who wasn't giving you free advertisement. Not once have I seen you (as in Blizzard) spotlight a normal player.
Your youtube advertisers already get perks from you guys. Why not focus on the everyday player who doesn't make ad revenue from streaming your game.
I don't know how you define normal, but I'm pretty sure we're at an impasse. You seem to disregard any player the moment they start a YouTube or Twitch channel to share their own WoW-related content and gameplay.
You can claim that it's because you think we just love the PR or advertising. I think it's way overly judgmental and even cynical.
I really wish threads like these wouldn't get highlighted by Blizzard CMs. It only helps to reconsider my part in this community sometimes, and attracts more of this entitlement that is rampant throughout a lot of communities. There's a video of a community person that you don't have to click and it gets a thread, and replies, to even further bring in more people, and I can only wonder why it is important.
Life is too short to be so cynical and mad about things like these, but I do imagine I'm making a moot point in a forum like this, so I'll leave you folks to it.

Launcher sounds like it should mostly "launch games"
That's what running an .exe file does. A launcher is a space that has information about a game or games including promotions and any relevant news or patch notes. That's exactly what they're using it for, too.
And I'm really glad, 'cause some days I don't check the forums so having info there helps me find it easier, and also informs players that may not regularly check for information on the game that there are things happening in the community.
The launcher has more reach than any external media, including their own website.

If you must put videos on the launcher, then I would rather see you guys highlight the dev team, the art team, the music team, the CM team, the quest team, etc. Those are the true content creators.

To me this is saying you either do something you love, or you seek to make money, but it can't be both. That's to suggest, along with previous statements you've made in this thread, that I'm not a player or member of the community, and I cannot legitimately be passionate about Blizzard games, because my job involves a paycheck.

I know this thread is capped. I'm just catching up on some of the posts that came in over the weekend and want to point this one out as a tremendous example of giving constructive feedback on a topic. It's critical of our decision pertaining to the topic of discussion in this thread, but it's a very reasonably expressed opinion for us to evaluate.
I'd be so happy to see more people layout their protests in this manner, for whatever they may be.
Why don't you want that content in the launcher? is it really so important to you? how much time do you spend on average even looking at it? Genuine questions, cause I don't get how it's even remotely an issue.
Because that content is of no interest to me. It's not terribly important to me; I'm not going to click it, either way. It's not an "issue" - that's what I'm getting at. People are saying it's an "issue" when in reality it's a preference.
Game companies especially like to talk about how much they care about player feedback. My feedback is that the content they are choosing to back in the launcher is uninteresting and I'd prefer that it not be there. I have my own reasons for disliking streamers and the relationships they have with game companies, but that's not the main point. At the end of the day, it's content I don't want and my feedback is to remove it, for whatever that's worth.
But it is useless complaining about something that doesn't hinder or prevent you from playing the game at all.
You don't have to click on it, the point is that just because you don't want doesn't mean it can't be there. Ignore or Avoid it.

I know I don't have to click it. I'm not going to. But forums are for feedback, and that's what's being given. It's not useless to give feedback - it's what the company wants you to do! For instance, if they learned that this sort of feature was largely ignored or unliked, they would avoid doing it in the future, saving themselves effort and freeing up space for different content.
But they won't know that unless you tell them.
Unlike others here, I'm not 'demanding' that it be removed. I'm not saying that because I don't like it, no one should see it. I'm saying that as a user of the launcher, I don't want that content in it. That's all. No demands, no lectures.
I don't think that sort of feedback is unreasonable OR useless.
