Q, do you; 1) Stop and help them fight off those mobs? 2) Sit and watch to see if the mobs die first then attack the Gnome? 3) Proceed to attack the Gnome to add to the challenge? Or 4) Wave and continue on your way? What would you do?

Or even candy... they could smell of candy... I'm so conflicted now...
