Have some time before my character xfer takes place. Thought I'd share my reasons for picking up this game in the first place. I've been playing since just before BC launched, I got to be a part of the masses slaughtered at the gates of Org when Outlands invaded! It was epic.
I was fortunate enough to be working for a small chain of computer stores at the time that WARCRAFT: Orcs/Humans came out and we would often stay after work to play on the networked systems. Good times were had.
Then the various Xpacs and sequels launched and we all fell in love with the story and the characters. Great memories were made and laughs were had by all.
Enter World of Warcraft. I didn't jump on the band wagon right away as paying a sub to play a game was not my idea of good spending habits. Eventually I broke down and joined the party so that I could see what it was like to be a single unit of the masses I use to send into battle against my foes. I fell in love right away.
It's my belief that having the chance to play in the story that was already built, before WoW was even on the table, was what kept me attached to the game all the way through WotLK. Once Arthas was defeated though I've felt lost and disconnected. Deathwing was cool but I had to attachment through previous experiences with him. Even today with Garrosh and the Sha I'm not feeling the same love of being a part of what was once rooted to memories of a great time.
But this isn't a thread to complain about the current content or even a suggestion thread. It's a "SHARE YOUR STORY" thread which will hopefully serve to help people remember why they picked up the mantle of hero in the first place.
What's your story?
At first, it was for a contract to work on the first Official Brady Games World of Warcraft strategy guide. (I had played all of the Warcraft games and was an avid fan of Blizzard with a long gaming history already.) Then, it was because I loved the game and my guild and many many friends were going to play. Then, it continued as I advanced my Community Manager career by being fortunate enough to join the team here. I'll be going on 7 years with the company as of June 19. I still believe in the creativity of the team here, my co-workers, and the game. It's "home" for me. |
