What's up with the necroing lately?

blizz -> wysłany:
Every single day I notice 5+ necroes.. threads that are from 2010-2011 are getting necroed very often it seems...
blizz -> wysłany:
It's hard to define a necro post really. It depends on the subject, and that affects the length of time it can be since the last post before it's considered a necro.

Yes, if the subject of the thread is no longer relevant (question has been answered for example) and it's been 2 weeks since the last post, that can be counted as a necro. However, if it's an on-going constructive discussion and it's been a month since the last post, I think that's fine.

Obviously the content of the post itself matters though. Just posting "I agree" after a month on a thread, no matter the quality of the thread up to that point, isn't that helpful.

I asked about 10 days ago about the timescale and nobody from Blizzard really took any notice.

Ouch. We took notice of you Dottie, as always. We just didn't have the opportunity to reply at that particular moment.

I'd rather have a completely new thread in these cases where you can talk about the view points of the poster instead of having what could make for a whole new discussion forgotten in a thread where people look at the first page and comment on that.

Well that's fine too. As long as there's no active thread on the topic, you can always start a new thread to give your opinion.

Not always true. Of course due to arbitrary forum rules I can't speak of the thread I'm thinking about. But threads have been closed/deleted with the reason given (after I took it to email, and yes it wasn't my own thread) was because "there were other active threads on the subject". Except the other threads were all >1 month old at the time.

It depends on the subject. If it's about a long-running topic that people discuss regularly, but which has no new aspects to talk about, we would prefer people keep it to one thread, no matter if it's been inactive for a while, because there's nothing new to add, no new perspective to discuss. But, if it's about something different, an opinion or idea which hasn't seen the light of day before, of course we'll let a new thread run and leave the old one to go its own way.
