It's hard to define a necro post really. It depends on the subject, and that affects the length of time it can be since the last post before it's considered a necro.
Yes, if the subject of the thread is no longer relevant (question has been answered for example) and it's been 2 weeks since the last post, that can be counted as a necro. However, if it's an on-going constructive discussion and it's been a month since the last post, I think that's fine. Obviously the content of the post itself matters though. Just posting "I agree" after a month on a thread, no matter the quality of the thread up to that point, isn't that helpful. |

Ouch. We took notice of you Dottie, as always. We just didn't have the opportunity to reply at that particular moment. |

Well that's fine too. As long as there's no active thread on the topic, you can always start a new thread to give your opinion. |

It depends on the subject. If it's about a long-running topic that people discuss regularly, but which has no new aspects to talk about, we would prefer people keep it to one thread, no matter if it's been inactive for a while, because there's nothing new to add, no new perspective to discuss. But, if it's about something different, an opinion or idea which hasn't seen the light of day before, of course we'll let a new thread run and leave the old one to go its own way. |
