What made raiding unique for me was working towards something :) Like doing Karazhan to get into Zul'aman. Doing Zul'aman to get into Tempest Keep. I knew, there were more to see, and that if I kept on, I would probably get to see it. I would improve my standings, my character would improve, I would defeat the evil masterlords of Outland. I dinged to 85, did a few dungeons, and defeated Deathwing within an hour. It was having a goal, that wasn't completed within a day. I don't care about the gear, but lorewise that felt epic. Achieving your own goals, competing with your friends, and such.
WOTLK made players skip content, and that is why many started quitting. When they suddenly skip content, there is LESS content. That's logical. And I even heard Ghostcrawler admitted in a post, that players are finishing content way faster than they did in vanilla/tbc. With all respect for the devs, they can't catch up with the speed, that players are finishing content right now. And that is why, people shouldn't be able to skip content.
Removing JP/VP and stop the release of end-game dungeons would be the way to prevent people from being bored way too fast.
Sorry - That is my opinion atleast.
