What characters struck you as being far more important than the game lended them credit?
For me it was Sir Zeliek. I was really hoping to find an intricate story about him in a book somewhere, sadly there is none. His sheer hopelessness in being completely physically controlled by the LK really made me feel bad.
Also Thaddius, omfg women and children.
One of my favorite minor characters that means something to me is Pamela Redpath in Eastern Plaguelands. Each and every time I traverse her quest chain, I wonder about all that she went through and what will become of her in the passing years.
There are so many diverse characters in-game, and I think that it is a mixed blessing that for some we will continue to discover more about them as time goes on, but for others, details about their lives are likely to remain a mystery. But there’s power in letting some questions remain unanswered. Starkwen’s comment pertaining to Darkshore reminded me that when the Cataclysm hit, I too roamed the shore and wondered about the characters who went missing or were otherwise dead. Minor as they were, they helped flesh out the world. With their passing, I was struck with a sense of loss that the familiar faces I’d seen and often taken for granted for so many years were no longer there to greet me. I understood, however, that as the story moved forward, such losses were to be expected. Whether characters have the spotlight for only a few precious minutes, or they interact with you frequently over the course of many years, I feel that they all play a part in the larger story. Their presence truly helps to deepen and flesh out the world of Azeroth.
