Blizzard's Prejudice? Profanity Filter Failed

blizz -> wysłany:
Dear Blizzard Entertainment,

While your profanity filter turning back on automatically has been a minor nuisance, I'm a little perturbed to see that a three-letter word starting in F and ending in G, commonly an insult towards gay men, is not blocked by the mature language filter. I always assumed it was blocked, but with the recent trouble with the mature language filter not staying off, I noticed that it was a word that slips by unblocked. Generally I think very little of censorship, but it seems that you (Blizzard Entertainment) don't view this word as offensive. Many of us in the gay community do, and would LOOSELY compare it to a white supremacist using the N-word. These two words have a VERY different history, and while there is not the same level of animosity associated with the three-letter F-word, there is still enough history that a company should know better than to treat it differently than other derogatory labels.

I don't know if this was a careless oversight or a purposeful omission to the mature language filter. I would urge you to consider at least viewing the three-letter F-word as something that deserves the same classification as the N-word, and having its use blocked by a mature language filter.

Sincerely,

Duld

To other players responding,

Yes, it has been established that in many English speaking countries it is a term that can be substituted for cigarette. I know this. No need to mention it again.

To those people who are trying to bolster my sense of being by letting me know that words have no real power....I know. I get this. I don't use the mature language filter. I can deal with the word. I am more upset that this word isn't treated in the same way as words with similar derogatory meanings, even if it is a slang meaning. If I wanted to I could report every individual who drops the F*G bomb, but I don't. I was just surprised that Blizzard didn't treat it in a similar fashion to other words of its ilk.

To any person making this an attack against "people like me", give me a break. Stop trolling.

This thread is being locked because it has gotten a bit off-topic, and more specifically, because as stated in our forum's Code of Conduct, the use of masked/unmasked obscene or inappropriate language is not allowed. The profanity filter does not grant license to violate the Code of Conduct, and it should be obvious that doing so intentionally is frowned upon and can lead to a temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges.

That said, we take harassment very seriously, so if you have an issue with another player on the forums using harassing language towards you, please make sure to use the forum ignore feature and report them.

Likewise: if you are experiencing in-game issues with another player using harassing language towards you, please report them to a Game Master.
