I often myself spending quite a lot of time trying to coin together a good name for a new character only to find that it has already been taking and more often than not, by some level 1 alt.
Is there anything than can be done to allow others to use those name after x amount of time as some people are essentially saving these names and by doing so, stopping others from using them. This is especially common in RP servers.

I'm sorry if this is not a very helpful reply, but I have to admit that I side with those suggesting choosing a different name.
It's true that names are extremely important to many people playing games like the World of Warcraft. I agonise, sometimes for hours, on each of my character's names, making them as awesome as possible. Sure, it's harsh when that 'perfect' name is unavailable on a realm (regardless of the level/status of the character who currently possesses it), but I just view it as a challenge to come up with an even better one. I realise that I am talking personally here, but I think it's helpful advice for anyone reading this. As for our official stance, well 'first come, first serve' is the basic principal and works well in general. However, as mentioned, if the name is taken by a low level character on an account that has been completely inactive for a long period of time, then we may be able to assist you. So, feel free to make a ticket by all means and we will take a look, but please be aware that the chances of us being able to free up the name are very low. |
