Repost of deleted thread

I was in the middle of reading this whole thread then it was deleted and believe people should see this ill edit out the names to save a forum ban that the creator may have received

For a hour and a half I had to listen to a group of child abusers use general chat to discuss the laws, distribution and other facets of child pornography. I put a ticket in, and was just hit with the "18 hours for response" message. Also, tons of other people just sat around saying "I doubt he gets banned. Blizzard does not care" and that is kind of the truth. So much crap like this happens all the time, and Blizzard does NOTHING to police their own game.

Telling us to use an ignore feature or police it ourselves it not acceptable. You make billions of dollars per month, so I have a hard time believing you can't hire more GM's to do nothing but watch chat channels and suspend/ban those always causing problems.

Even if the following people were just trolling, the way they discussed exploiting children should get them reported to the local authorities to at least investigate the matter. What some may say "LOL! HE JUST JOKES" might actually be some pervert with children locked in his house.

Here are the names of the people who were talking about this, saying they want to watch it, and would not shut up about child porn in general:

- This was the main offender. He was arguing in favor of child porn for over an hour
- Did nothing but say how much the conversation aroused him
- I believe is producing child porn based on some of the comments he made
- Joined in to ask about hiring an individual to kill other person
- Accused people of being abused as a child for asking them all to stop talking about it, and relentlessly attacked anyone who wanted them to shut up

All of these people were on Mal'Ganis in the general chat for the TB daily zone.

Even if they were making it all up and just trolling, this type of behavior should still NOT be acceptable what-so-ever.

I really hope Blizzard does something about it.

I bet money this post is removed and I get a forum ban while all of these sick people get absolutely nothing done to them. I say this, because I see people do stuff similar to this ALL THE TIME, EVERY SINGLE DAY and they fill up chat channels for HOURS with horrible junk. Yet, GM's never take any action.

I would at least HOPE these people are investigated by local authorities to ensure they are not exploiting children.

The original thread was not deleted because of the content, or even because of the actions that took place. It was deleted because of the violations within the thread that were occurring. A thread of that size with little constructive commentary is usually going to get deleted.

As this thread itself is a violation, it's going to remain locked, but I do want to provide clarification on the original issue. Please keep the Forum Code of Conduct in mind when posting.

We have many servers. Lets use 200 as a nice round number, just for example's sake. What channels SHOULD we police? Just General? Just General AND Trade? Is that including General of every zone on the server? I took a glance into the original petition - the violations being reported occurred in the Tol Barad Peninsula General channel, so let's say every General channel then, plus Trade.

Each zone in the game has two General channels - one for each faction. There are approximately 80-90 zones per server, not counting instances or battlegrounds. That means we'd be policing 160-180 + 2 (Trade) channels PER SERVER. We multiply that by 200 for number of servers.

3200-3600 + 400 channels to be monitored. Assume Game Masters work 8 hours per day. That means we need 3 shifts of Game Masters to cover each channel of each server 24/7/365. 9600-10800 + 1200 Game Masters would be required for the service you are requesting. And that would be if ALL those Game Masters did was to monitor chat.

Even if you broke it down to each Game Master having multiple channels, it would still require THOUSANDS of individuals and additional labor.

See why it's not a very feasible method?

Even if they were making it all up and just trolling, this type of behavior should still NOT be acceptable what-so-ever.

Such behavior IS not acceptable. Period. Reporting it is in the best interest of everyone on the server. Our queue times, regrettably, are not instantaneous. Action on that petition did not take place until several hours later. But I can assure you - appropriate action for the situation was taken. Any violations found were met with the appropriate penalties.

However benevelent your intentions may have been (whether this is directed at the original poster of the original thread, or the original poster of this thread), meeting it with your own violations of a different policy is not appropriate either. Please keep that in mind when posting in the future.

As for the other offenders, if you continue to see them misbehaving, report them again! No, really, I mean it. We do try to give people second chances - you know, a chance to enjoy the game themselves without ruining it for everyone else. They may get a warning, or a short-term suspension (a few hours, maybe a day), usually if it was their first offense. Our penalties are dependent on the severity of the offense, as well as prior history. You can see more about how our Account Penalties work below.

How do you know they received punishment? There really isn't a way to know without being the individual who was actioned, or the Game Master who actioned them. We do not publicize the actions taken for many reasons. It's primarily a concern for an individual's privacy.

If someone is on all the time spamming trade or saying inappropriate things, that makes it very highly likely that individual has never been reported. A realm's environment is directly related to the amount of reporting that is done by its denizens. If players do not properly report offenses, they are allowing those offenses to continue. Game Masters are a reactive service, primarily for the reasons I outlined above (the amount of manpower it would take to NOT be). But they can be an immensely powerful tool when used appropriately, and we greatly value petitions placed to help clean up your realm. It helps us help you guys, and that's what we're here for.
