Bashiok's post made me think about the current Forum, and how people are generally not taking all the thread deletions well. I don't blame 'em, I would be too.
The problem here is that the Forum tools aren't robust enough to support these massive 100+ page threads. The Devs have stated again and again that they want to keep topics to as few threads as possible and I can tell you, from all the people I know who don't like to read so much.. That + the current forum design = no freakin' way.
You really want all the forum goers to actually do what you want 'em to, you'll need to give them some more help. Namely some tools to facilitate browsing huge threads, and searching all the 1600+ pages of threads in the general discussion forum alone.
I know I read a while back that a search feature was going to be added. Do us a favor and really pimp that thing out. Make it so I don't have to try a bunch of different phrasings/wordings to find what thread/post/poster I'm looking for. Make it like Microsoft Bing is supposedly like.
A "Subscribe to Thread" button would be great. Most vBulletin forums have this feature. Going along this line, a bookmark feature for posts to assist in keeping your place in 100+ page threads would be another great step to help cut down on those "90% thread deletions is repeat topix".
Until the forums are setup to handle/search thru large threads, I don't see an end to this "Deletion War"...
