August 13, 2020

Quests

  • Zandalari Trolls are now able to accept the Argent Tournament quest “A Valiant of Orgrimmar”.

August 11, 2020

Classes

  • Warlock
    • Resolved an issue that prevented Singe Magic from triggering the correct cooldown when Glyph of the Fel Imp is applied to your Summon Imp spell.

Timewalking

  • [ For realms in the EU region only ] The Cataclysm Timewalking event incorrectly began a day early in Europe.
    • Developers’ note: We have adjusted this week’s event duration and spawned the appropriate vendors early to ensure that it runs until the next weekly reset. The weekly event schedule should remain on Wednesdays for EU realms going forward.

August 7, 2020

WoW Classic

  • The Qiraji Hilt, Qiraji Drape, and Qiraji Ring quest items are now tradeable and will no longer stack.
    • Developers’ note: In order to enable the ability to trade to eligible looters within 2 hours of looting the Qiraji hilts, drapes, and rings, we’ve removed the ability to stack multiples of them. Additionally, only one of these items are needed for the non-repeatable quest so there’s no reason for them to stack.

August 5, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Fixed a bug that prevented Frost Wands from weakening Viscidus in Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.

August 4, 2020

Player versus Player

  • This week’s Comp Stomp Brawl has been replaced with Temple of Hotmogu.

    • Developers’ note: We’re changing the item quality on the Scepter Shard quest items to Epic (purple) so that they’ll be easier to distribute to the correct person in raids using Group Loot or Master Looter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused C’Thun within Temple of Ahn’Qiraj to incorrectly delay casting Eye Beam when engaging in combat.

August 3, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Lefty within Blackrock Depths should now inflict damage with his Five Fat Finger Exploding Heart Technique.

July 31, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Corrupted Items
    • Reverted the recent change made on the interaction between Fist of Justice and Ineffable Truth for Holy and Protection Paladins.

WoW Classic

  • The Ectoplasmic Distiller quest item no longer generates threat.
    • Developers’ note: Ordinarily we err on the side of authenticity when it comes to clever use of mechanics in Classic, even if we believe the original development team would have made a change given the same information we now have. The Ectoplasmic Distiller presents a rare exception mainly due to its severity: this new discovery of an unintended mechanic would completely trivialize most threat gameplay in raids for the remainder of Classic if left unchecked, including upcoming bosses in Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas.
  • The pages for the quest “Draconic for Dummies” are now Epic quality.
    • Developers’ note: We’re changing the item quality on “Draconic for Dummies” quest pages to Epic (purple) so that they’ll be easier to distribute to the correct person in raids using Group Loot or Master Looter.

July 29, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Attacking Anachronos now flags you for PvP.

July 28, 2020

Player versus Player

  • Resolved an issue that delayed the start of the Classic Ashran brawl.

WoW Classic

  • Baristolth of the Shifting Sands now respawns slightly faster, and attacking Baristolth now flags you for PvP.

July 27, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Corrupted Items
    • A change to the interaction between Fist of Justice and Ineffable Truth has been reverted.
      • Developers’ note: This change was mistakenly applied with the release of 8.3.7. This was unintentional and the change has been reverted.

Player versus Player

  • Classes
    • Warlock
      • [ With regional restarts ] Soul Leech grants an absorb for 4% of damage dealt when engaged in combat with enemy players (down from 8%).
        • Developers’ note: Soul Leech will continue to have a cap of 10% of the Warlock’s maximum health.
      • Destruction
        • [ With regional restarts ] The effectiveness of Flashpoint (Azerite Trait) has been reduced by 75% when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 50%).
  • Items and Rewards
    • [ With regional restarts ] The effectiveness of Lingering Psychic Shell has been reduced by 70% when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 50%).
  • Azerite Essences
    • [ With regional restarts ] The effectiveness of Vitality Conduit’s health transfer has been reduced by 30% when engaged in combat with enemy players.

    • [ With regional restarts ] Ineffable Truth (Corruption Effect) no longer reduces the cooldown of Gladiator’s Medallion (PvP Talent).
  • Developers’ note: These PvP specific changes are to reduce the number of long stalled out matches in high end Arena.

WoW Classic

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer buff to not apply to all players in Stormwind and Orgrimmar when the Head of Onyxia or Head of Nefarian has been turned in on their realm or its connected layers.

July 24, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Fixed a bug that could allow stacked periodic auras such as Ignite to persist past their final tick.

July 23, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Heart of Azeroth
    • The chance to receive Rank 4 of the Worldvein Resonance Essence from Island Expeditions has been slightly increased.
    • The achievements Expedition Leader , Expert Expeditioner , and Azerite Admiral have had their increased chance to receive Rank 4 of the Worldvein Resonance Essence further increased.
    • The achievements Island Conqueror , Helping Hand , Tell Me A Tale , and Competent Captain now increase your chance to receive Rank 4 of the Worldvein Resonance Essence.

Quests

  • Fixed an issue that caused some players to incorrectly be ineligible for the Shimmering Crystal quest-starter from Warlords of Draenor Timewalking.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Forsaken Deathstalker to evade and prevent completion of the quest “Signal Boost”.

System

  • Fixed an issue that caused the camera to become attached to mouse movement.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the mouse cursor to become stuck.

July 22, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ny’alotha the Waking City
    • Prophet Skitra
      • Corrected an issue that unintentionally increased Prophet Skitra’s health on Mythic difficulty.
    • N’Zoth the Corruptor
      • Thought Harvester will now stop moving to cast Harvest Thoughts and will no longer use melee attacks during the cast.

WoW Classic

  • On a realm that is currently layered, turning in Head of Onyxia, Head of Nefarian, Head of Rend Blackhand, or Heart of Hakkar will now start the event dialogue for each layer in which the NPC is currently alive.

July 20, 2020

Quests

  • Fixed an issue where some Alliance characters were unable to accept the quests “To Be Prepared” and “The Battle for Broken Shore” after completing the quest “The Legion Returns” in Stormwind Harbor.

WoW Classic

  • Blocked off a location outside of intended play within Warsong Gulch.

July 17, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Casting animations should no longer break when briefly pausing in between spell casts.
  • Using Sap on Overlord Runthak, Major Mattingly, or Field Marshal Afrasiabi during their event dialogue no longer prevents the Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer buff from being applied.
  • [ With regional restarts ] Resolved some issues that could prevent Tyrion from offering quests.

July 13, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Mythic Keystone Dungeons
    • Corrupted Affix
      • The ground visual for Explosive Scarab’s Volatile Rupture should remain visible with lowered Graphics Quality in the System Settings menu.

Horrific Visions

  • [ With regional restarts ] The Leaden Foot slow effect is now capped at 50% of movement speed (was 90%).
  • [ With regional restarts ] Split Personality clones are now spawned for 5 seconds (was 6 seconds), and its disorient effect now lasts 2 seconds (was 4 seconds).

July 9, 2020

Classes

  • Warlock
    • Demonology
      • The mana cost of Shadow Bolt has been reduced by 25%.
      • The mana cost of Demonbolt has been reduced by 25%.
        • Developers’ note: Demonology Warlocks are running out of mana in prolonged fights when using high levels of Haste so we’re reducing the mana costs of their most frequent rotational spells.

Items and Rewards

  • Corrupted Items
    • [With regional restarts] Players with a Corruption level of 200 or higher will now receive an additional negative effect, Inescapable Consequences, which deals 25% of your maximum health in damage every second while you are in combat.
      • Developers’ note: While Corruption’s damage taken and healing received debuffs are substantial at high Corruption amounts, players possessed of particular ingenuity have constructed strategies allowing them to deal nearly infinite damage during brief windows when they themselves are immune to damage. It’s important to us that players feel like they can play around with how much Corruption they can afford to wear, but we’re setting a hard limit at 200 Corruption – going beyond that, N’Zoth’s dark power will defeat you.

July 8, 2020

WoW Classic

  • Time-based instance limits are now enforced per-character.
    • Developers’ notes: The newer limit of 30 instances in a 24-hour period is an extension of the 5 instances per hour limit, which was tracked per-realm since it was first implemented in 2005. The intention behind both of these restrictions is to reduce the profits for new bots when they first come online and haven’t been removed yet. We’ve concluded that a per-character limit will be just as effective, while being less restrictive to legitimate players who have multiple characters on the same realm.

July 2, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Operation: Mechagon – Workshop
    • King Mechagon’s hologram within Ampvolt Arcade should no longer trigger more than once and spawn additional waves of enemies.

June 30, 2020

Timewalking

  • Ulduar
    • Kologarn
      • Right Arm should now only Stone Grip 1 target regardless of raid size.

June 25, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve
    • Fixed an issue that prevented players who were one upgrade below the cap from purchasing their final Malefic Core from MOTHER.

June 24, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Black Temple
    • Illidan Stormrage
      • Fixed an issue that would sometimes prevent players from receiving loot after defeating Illidan Stormrage.

Items and Rewards

  • Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve
    • MOTHER now offers Malefic Core for 2,000 Echoes of Ny’alotha to players who have upgraded their legendary cloak to Rank 15. Malefic Cores can be purchased repeatedly up to the current maximum Resistance that the cloak allows (currently 92 Corruption Resistance, and next week this will increase to 95).
      • Developers’ note: The intent of Malefic Cores was to provide ongoing incremental weekly power gains, to help overcome remaining challenges in this final tier of Battle for Azeroth. This has been similar to past systems in Warlords of Draenor (upgrading the legendary rings via Archimonde drops) and Legion (upgrading trinkets from Argus the Unmaker). While each extra bit of Corruption Resistance only represents a small increase in potential power, we understand the frustration of feeling weeks behind, especially without any controlled way of closing the gap faster. With this hotfix, players can further supplement their progress through the wide variety of endgame content that rewards Echoes of Ny’alotha. It will still be possible to earn up to two Malefic Cores per week by fully clearing a Horrific Vision and/or defeating N’Zoth the Corruptor on Normal difficulty or higher.

June 23, 2020

Classes

  • Warlock
    • Affliction
      • The mana cost of Shadow Bolt has been reduced by 25%.
    • Destruction
      • The mana cost of Incinerate has been reduced by 25%.
    • Developers’ note: Affliction and Destruction Warlocks are running out of mana in prolonged fights when using high levels of Haste so we’re reducing the mana costs of their primary filler spells.

Creatures and NPCs

  • Players can once again embark on their world tour with Uuna and show her the impressiveness of the Gate of the Setting Sun.

Player versus Player

  • Resolved an issue that prevented the slow effect from Monks Sweep the Leg (Azerite Trait) from being removed with snare immunities.

June 19, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Resolved an issue that allowed players to skip the Maut encounter within Raid Finder Wing 1, “Vision of Destiny”.

WoW Classic

  • Blade of Eternal Darkness will no longer proc from non-damaging spells.
    • Developers’ notes: In original WoW patch 1.12.1, we fixed some misbehavior with Blade of Eternal Darkness that unfortunately got carried into WoW Classic. We fixed it again in the WoW Classic AQ patch (1.13.5), but decided to go ahead and bring the fix to the live game.
  • 40-player raid instances are no longer affected by the 30-per-day limit on entering dungeons.
    • Developers’ notes: We have seen only a small handful of legitimate players encountering the recently added instance limit, but we want to ensure that anyone who does hit the cap is still able to freely participate in raid content.

June 16, 2020

Auction House

  • Implemented a system that will throttle players who are using addons to run rapid queries to scan the Auction House for specific items to buy and relist in huge quantities.
    • Developers’ note: Through our continuing work to address service issues as they crop up, as well as our constant efforts to find gameplay issues and fix them, we’ve observed that a small minority of all players generate the majority of Auction House traffic. The players who generate all of the AH traffic are using addon-driven automation to gain a competitive economic advantage over other players, in addition to the increasing strain on the game service. Neither of these things is good for the game as a whole.
With this hotfix, we’ve implemented a new system that effectively gives each player a “budget” of AH actions per minute, and only kicks in once that budget has been exceeded. The system is tuned so that is should never affect players using the AH typically: buying consumables, listing gathered or crafted goods for sale, searching for specific items you want to purchase, etc. It should be essentially impossible to encounter the new limits for most players.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Battle of Dazar’alor
    • Players who have previously defeated Lady Jaina Proudmoore on Mythic difficulty can now interact with Otoye (Horde) / Ensign Roberst (Alliance) at the entrance of the instance to skip ahead to her encounter.
      • Developers’ note: We’ve become aware of an exploit that allowed Horde players using a combination of abilities and mounts to get out of bounds and skip to the end of the instance. This was commonly used to more easily get a chance at the Glacial Tidestorm from the Jaina Proudmoore encounter. Rather than just fixing that loophole, we’d like to provide a legitimate avenue that yields the same result.

WoW Classic

  • You may now enter a maximum of 30 unique instances (dungeon and raid) per day, per realm.
    • Developers’ note: We’re implementing this change as part of our ongoing efforts to eliminate exploitative and automated gameplay. This restriction complements the current limit of 5 instances per hour. Now, when a player enters a dungeon or a raid, the game checks to see if they have entered 5 instances in the last hour or 30 instances in the last 24 hours, and if they have, they cannot enter the instance until enough time has elapsed. This check is across all of your characters on your realm. These limits only apply to dungeon and raid instances, and do not apply to PvP battlegrounds.

June 9, 2020

Classes

  • Monk
    • Mistweaver
      • Chrysalis (PvP Talent) now reduces the cooldown of Life Cocoon by 25 seconds (was 45 seconds).

Dungeons and Raids

  • Skyreach
    • Araknath
      • Energize damage has been reduced by 50% on Heroic and Timewalking difficulties.

Horrific Visions

  • Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar
    • Thrall’s throne has been blocked off to prevent a rare occurrence where characters could become stuck if feared into the throne.

Items and Rewards

  • Azerite Essences
    • Conflict and Strife (Major – Rank 2) now increases the defensive benefit of your Versatility by 50% while stunned (was 100%).

Player versus Player

  • Items and Rewards
    • Corrupted Gladiator’s Spite can once again stack more quickly when multiple Corrupted Gladiator’s Spite trinkets are used against a target.
    • Azerite Essences
      • Reaping Flames (Major – Rank 3) no longer activates on player-controlled targets such as pets, totems, or guardians.
      • Resolved an issue that prevented Conflict and Strife (Major – Rank 2) effect from providing additional defensive benefit from Versatility under the effects of certain class stuns.
    • Corrupted Items
      • The effectiveness of Versatile (Corruption Effect) has been reduced by 33% when engaged in combat with enemy players.

Quests

  • Fixed several quests that could be unintentionally shared and trigger a teleport upon accepting.

Timewalking

  • We have reduced the magnitude of the stat adjustment applied to players to compensate for their Corruption level.
    • Developers’ note: Timewalking is designed to largely be a gear-agnostic experience that allows players of different levels and stages of progression to group together. Since Legion, we’ve used stat adjustments to offset the unique power benefits from systems like Artifacts or Essences to try to keep power constant. We were being too aggressive in compensating for Corruption, and this was making Timewalking dungeons in Visions of N’Zoth more difficult than intended.
  • Auchindoun
    • Teron’gor
      • Agony should now inflict the appropriate amount of damage as it increases over time.
      • The Seed of Malevolence explosion should now inflict damage to all players near the affected target.

WoW Classic

  • Fixed an issue that would cause a Dragon of Nightmare to spawn again shortly after its death.

June 8, 2020

Classes

  • Rogue
    • Subtlety
      • Resolved an issue that prevented Subtlety Rogues from being visible to their target during Shadowy Duel (PvP Talent).

Items and Rewards

  • The gateway summoned by Corrupted Gladiator’s Breach trinket is now slightly larger and easier to interact with when there are nearby units.

June 5, 2020

WoW Classic

  • More world buffs have been added to the Advanced Combat Log and will now be recorded when starting a raid encounter.

June 4, 2020

WoW Classic

  • When using Advanced Combat Logging, the presence of various world buffs (e.g. Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer) will now be consistently recorded when starting a raid encounter.
  • Players who are interacting with their mailbox or bank can no longer be interrupted by trade requests.

June 2, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Corrupted Items
    • Gushing Wound (Corruption Effect) damage over time effect has been reduced by 35%.
      • Developers’ note: While we try to avoid changes like this outside of regular balance patch intervals, the changes we’ve made to the Corruption system to make Corruption more targetable and attainable risks turning a rare but powerful Corruption into the optimal choice in nearly every situation. With this reduction in damage, Gushing Wound will remain reasonably powerful in all situations, but will no longer be the most efficient source of damage per Corruption in all situations.
    • Fixed a bug that caused the lockout time of interrupted spell schools to increase when the Ineffable Truth Corruption effect ends.

June 1, 2020

Quests

  • Bowmistress Li should once again be available on Serpent’s Spine to offer the quests “Falling Down” and “Nope”.

May 28, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Preserved Contaminant and Gouged Eye of N’Zoth can now be applied to items acquired from weekly rated PvP quests.

Player versus Player

  • [ With regional restarts ] Corrupted Gladiator’s Spite on use effect now keeps the afflicted enemies in combat for the full duration of its effect.
  • Fixed an issue where Mantid Fire Bomb damage was scaling incorrectly against players.

WoW Classic

  • Black Lotus now spawns more often and can appear in many new locations.
  • Black Lotus cannot be seen on-screen or on the minimap by players who are dead, unless they have Herbalism at level 300 or higher.
  • In Warsong Gulch, several locations outside of the intended play area have been blocked off.

May 27, 2020

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ny’alotha, the Waking City
    • N’Zoth the Corruptor
      • Fixed a bug that could cause Spike Tentacles to repeatedly target a player with multiple casts of Pain Spike in succession rather than randomizing targets.

May 21, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve
    • Fixed a bug that caused Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve to despawn only the most recently spawned Eye of Corruption instead of all active Eyes of Corruption.
  • Preserved Contaminant
    • Preserved Contaminant can now be applied to all items that have been cleansed of Corruption prior to this week’s maintenance.

Player versus Player

  • Temple of Kotmogu
    • Fixed an issue that caused Orbs of Power to drop when taking the gateway created by Corrupted Gladiator’s Breach trinket.

Quests

  • The quests within the Shadowbarb Drone questline can no longer be completed with Party Sync activated.
    • Developers’ note: Issues using Party Sync to complete this questline could cause progress on the Aqir Hatchling faction to reset.

May 20, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Preserved Contaminant
    • Preserved Contaminant can now apply a Corruption effect to Season 4 crafted items, excluding items that cannot be Corrupted such as engineering goggles (Azerite) and alchemist stones (trinkets). Crafted items still cannot be initially Corrupted when they are crafted.

May 19, 2020

Items and Rewards

  • Echoes of Ny’alotha
    • MOTHER now offers several Preserved Contaminants, a new item to purchase with Echoes of Ny’alotha. Preserved Contaminants allow for a specific Corruption effect to be applied to any uncorrupted item that can be Corrupted or any items that have been cleansed after this week’s restart. The inventory of available Preserved Contaminants will change twice each week, mirroring the Assault cadence, and will cycle through all available Corruption effects at various levels of potency.

May 18, 2020

Classes

  • Demon Hunter
    • Fixed a bug that prevented Haste from reducing the global cooldown of Darkness.

Items and Rewards

  • Torn Pages of “Fear and Flesh” and “The Final Truth”
    • [ With regional restarts ] The number of Torn Pages of “Fear and Flesh” and “The Final Truth” quest items required for the rank 10–15 cloak quests has been reduced.
      • Ranks 10 and 11 now require 4 Torn Pages (was 6 and 8).
      • Ranks 13–15 now require 2 Torn Pages (was 4, 6, and 8).
      • Developers’ note: This change will make each of the quests completable in a single Horrific Vision if a player completes all objectives within the instance. This should help newer characters catch up quicker to their peers.
  • Echoes of Ny’alotha
    • [ With regional restarts ] Echoes of Ny’alotha now drop after completing the quest “Beginning the Descent” and obtaining Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve.
    • [ With regional restarts ] Echoes of Ny’alotha are much more abundant than before. The droprate of Echoes of Ny’alotha and the cost to purchase items with Echoes of Ny’alotha has been increased by a factor of 5.
      • Developers’ note: When these changes take effect, a Major Assault will award 625 Echoes of Ny’alotha, whereas before this change they awarded 125. The cost to purchase an Essence from MOTHER will also increase by the same factor, from 500 to 2500. If you are planning to purchase a Rank 3 Essence with Echoes of Ny’alotha that you’ve already earned, you should do so now, before these costs change.
    • [ With regional restarts ] MOTHER now offers Vessels of Horrific Visions in exchange for 1750 Echoes of Ny’alotha.
      • Developers’ note: This is to provide an additional source of access to Horrific Visions that does not require completion of Assaults.
    • Developers’ note: After the weekly restart, characters can start building up Echoes of Ny’alotha. The Preserved Contaminants Corruption vendor items that will use this currency is in the final testing phases and we hope to have them available from MOTHER as soon as possible.

May 14, 2020

May 13, 2020

  • Rare elite creatures found in Nazjatar with War Mode enabled now drop 1 Nazjatar Battle Commendation.

May 12, 2020

  • Fixed a bug that caused some players to be returned to an incorrect location when leaving a War Game.

May 11, 2020

Quests

  • The turn in location for “Supplies from the Rajani” and “Supplies from the Uldum Accord” now appear on the world map.

    • N’Zoth the Corruptor
      • Fixed an issue where Basher, Corruptor and Spike Tentacles could get stuck under the ground if they are stunned when Psychus is slain in Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic difficulties.

April 28, 2020

WoW Classic

  • In the Americas region, battleground holidays now start at the same time for all realms.
    • Developers’ note: While this is a change to how original WoW worked, with battlegroups of realms including only realms that were in the same time zone, it allows us to treat US-East and US-West realms as a single battlegroup for the purposes of matchmaking. Players on US-East realms will now begin and end their battleground holidays three hours later than before.
  • Players can now restore deleted characters on locked realms, if the character is applicable for restoration.
  • Fixed a bug that could sometimes cause fewer than all four Dragons of Nightmare to spawn as intended.
  • Many item enchantments now stack with certain items that provide an identical buff.
  • Many item enchantments that previously took up a hidden buff slot no longer consume a hidden buff slot.

April 27, 2020

  • [With regional restarts] Mistweaver Monks’ Rising Mist can now extend a heal-over-time effect by up to 100% of its original duration.
    • Developers’ note: When we buffed Rising Mist with the intention of making melee Mistweaver a viable playstyle, players discovered that stacking extreme amounts of haste and cooldown reduction can reach a breaking point of infinite duration on Mistweaver Monks’ heal-over-time effects. Even though it’s exciting to see people discover new builds and interactions, the sheer power level in this case is likely to have a negative effect on the healing game for the remainder of Battle for Azeroth. This change is intended to prevent the infinite extension, while allowing Rising Mist to still enable an effective melee playstyle.

  • Legion Raids and Dungeons
    • [With regional restarts] Legacy loot rules are now in place for Legion raids and dungeons.
      • Developers’ note: Standard encounters drop an amount of loot scaled by the amount of players in the raid, which results in fewer pieces for players who defeated encounters in small groups or as a solo player. In Legacy loot rules, raid and dungeon encounters will drop a fixed quantity of class-agnostic loot, regardless of the group size.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ny’alotha, the Waking City
    • Resolved an issue in which Adaptive Membrane was being removed after player-sourced absorb shields, unintentionally making the mechanic harder than intended.

Essences

  • Restrictions on acquiring role-specific Azerite Essences from MOTHER have been lifted.
    • Rank 3 tanking, healing, and damage-specific Essences are now grouped together and can be purchased with Echoes of Ny’alotha when at least one is unlocked on a character.
      • Spark of Inspiration, Unwavering Ward, Strength of the Warden (obtained from Horrific Visions)
      • Touch of the Everlasting, Spirit of Preservation, Breath of the Dying (obtained from reputation with Rajani)
      • Blood of the Enemy, Artifice of Time, Sphere of Suppression (obtained from Battlegrounds)
      • Condensed Life Force, Vitality Conduit, Azeroth’s Undying Gift (obtained from raiding in The Eternal Palace)
      • Essence of the Focusing Iris, Life-Binder’s Invocation, Anima of Life and Death (obtained from Mythic Keystone dungeons)
    • Developers’ note: This update to the new Echoes of Ny’alotha system is intended to make Essences much more available to your characters whose specializations put them in different roles (tanking, healing, damage). A side-effect of this change is that even a single character now has a way to obtain these off-role Essences, and can either use Echoes to purchase them from MOTHER or use the original means of acquisition.

March 18, 2020

World Quests

  • Emissary Quests turn-ins no longer award 10 bonus reputation when a Contract is active. No other quest turn-ins are affected.
    • Developers’ note: This seemingly random change was done to address an obscure bug that arose after the introduction of Echoes of Ny’alotha this past week. There is an internal limit on the number of different rewards that a single WoW quest can offer, and adding Echoes into the mix could push some Emissary quests past that cap in certain situations, preventing those quests from being turned in. Raising that long-standing limit is beyond the scope of a hotfix, and removing the conditional 10 bonus rep was the least disruptive fix in the short term.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ny’alotha, the Waking City
    • Resolved an issue that caused players to get locked inside the Chamber of Heart if both Carapace of N’Zoth and N’Zoth the Corruptor encounters were defeated but other bosses undefeated on Mythic difficulty.
    • N’Zoth the Corruptor
      • Tank-specialization characters should no longer be targeted by Paranoia on all difficulties.
        • Developers’ note: Paranoia’s coordination requirements when tanks are involved is a bit higher than we’d like. This fix prevents tanks from being targeted altogether, preventing awkward moments where a ranged character would need to run a long distance to meet up with a tank partner.
    • Mythic Keystone Dungeon
      • Tidesage Council
        • Blessing of the Tempest should now be more visible when active on Galecaller Faye.
        • Blowback damage reduced by 20%.
        • Slicing Blast damage reduced by 20%.
      • Waycrest Manor
        • Reduced the rate at which members of the Heartsbane Triad gain energy from the Focusing Iris, resulting in an increased delay before Dire Ritual is cast.

Items and Rewards

  • Corrupted Items
    • [With regional restarts] All equipment rewards from Horrific Visions are now Corrupted.
      • Developers’ note: We’ve heard from many players that Corrupted Items were not obtainable enough, limiting their ability to play with the system and its inherent tradeoffs. This change will substantially increase the number of Corrupted Items reliably earned each week, allowing players to choose from among a greater selection of Corrupted pieces and enjoy those that work best in a given situation.
    • Twisted Appendage no longer benefits from buffs like Power Word: Shield or Earthen Wall.
    • Twisted Appendage and Infinite Stars can no longer trigger more than once every 12 seconds during player versus player combat.
  • Heart of Azeroth
    • [With regional restarts] Players who have Rank 3 Azerite Essences on at least one character can now more easily acquire those Essences on other characters on the same account via a new currency: Echoes of Ny’alotha. MOTHER will offer any eligible character a Rank 3 Essence for 500 Echoes of Ny’alotha each. Any player who is eligible to purchase at least one Essence from MOTHER will now receive Echoes of Ny’alotha from a wide range of activities in current content:
      • Black Empire Assault – 125 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Aqir/Amathet/Mantid/Mogu Assault – 75 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Horrific Visions – 50 Echoes of Ny’alotha, plus 25 per additional objective completed (i.e. 150 Echoes of Ny’alotha for a full clear)
      • Emissary Quest – 50 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Heroic Darkshore Warfront – 75 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Normal/Heroic/Mythic Ny’alotha raid bosses – 15-25 Echoes of Ny’alotha each, once per week per boss
      • Ny’alotha Raid Finder wings – 25 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Random Battleground wins – 15-25 Echoes of Ny’alotha
      • Rated Arena wins – 10-25 Echoes of Ny’alotha baseline, scaling up with PvP rank
      • Rated Battleground wins – 35 Echoes of Ny’alotha baseline, scaling up with PvP rank
      • Weekly PvP Cache – 175 to 300 Echoes of Ny’alotha, based on PvP rank
      • Mythic Keystone dungeon end-of-run chest – 3 Echoes of Ny’alotha per Keystone Level (i.e. 30 Echoes of Ny’alotha for a Mythic 10)
      • Weekly Mythic Keystone Dungeon Cache – 20 Echoes of Ny’alotha per highest Keystone Level
        • Developers’ note: The general goal here is that doing Assaults and associated Horrific Visions should provide enough to get at least one Rank 3 Essence of your choice per week. Doing other content you like (PvP, dungeons, or raids) will increase that significantly, depending on the level of content you’re doing. Of course, Essences can still be earned normally via their associated activities, so if you want to get your Essence of the Focusing Iris directly via Mythic Keystone dungeons and then buy others from MOTHER, that’s now an option. Within a couple of weeks of hitting max-level on your alt, you should be able to obtain your preferred Essences by playing the game as you usually would. Please note: Echoes of Ny’alotha may appear to replace Azerite in the Emissary and PvP reward panes, however, it does not. Echoes of Ny’alotha are always additive with existing rewards. We believe that it is more important to release this update with a reward display issue than hold the change for a fix. We expect to fix the display issue in the next week or two. For more information read our forum post.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ny’alotha, the Waking City
    • Characters are now required to have Ashjra’kamas, Shroud of Resolve to queue for Raid Finder Wing 4, “The Waking Dream”.
      • Developers’ note: Due to the mechanics of both Wing 4’s boss fights, players who do not have the legendary cloak equipped are immediately mind controlled, burdening other players in their raid by not contributing to the kill. By enforcing this new restriction, Raid Finder groups will be set up for success and have a much higher chance of completing “The Waking Dream”.
    • N’Zoth the Corruptor
      • Increased the radius for Synaptic Shock to 15 yards (was 8 yards) on Raid Finder difficulty.
      • Reduced the total radius and expansion rate of Creeping Anguish on Raid Finder difficulty.
        • Developers’ note: These quality-of-life changes should increase the damage output of Raid Finder groups, specifically empowering them to bring down Psychus before it casts Manifest Madness and effectively becomes unkillable while wiping the raid.
    • Mythic Keystone Dungeon
      • Siege of Boralus
        • Sergeant Bainbridge (Horde) / Chopper Redhook (Alliance)
          • Damage inflicted when Heavy Ordnance expires now scales with keystone level. Damage inflicted when players or creatures run into Heavy Ordnance already scaled properly and remains unchanged.

      • [With regional restarts] Dark Ritual’s debuff effect now increases by 4% per stack (was 2% per stack) on all difficulties.
        • Developers’ note: Especially as raids’ overall damage output increases, many groups are spending a disproportionate amount of time dealing with Skitra’s illusions, and often skipping other mechanics entirely. This change is aimed at making the overall pace of the fight more consistent regardless of raid damage.

        • Thought Harvester
          • [With regional restarts] Harvest Thoughts Shadow damage reduced by 10%.
          • [With regional restarts] Harvest Thoughts Sanity drain reduced to 300 (was 400).
            • Developers’ note: We’ve seen extensive use of player immunities to avoid the consequences of certain raid mechanics, and while we want to allow player utility to function wherever possible, we’re wary when specific class compositions feel required. The changes to both Ra-den and N’Zoth are intended to make a wider range of raid compositions feel viable on Mythic difficulty.
      • [With regional restarts] Mindgrasp can no longer be interrupted by Priests’ Cosmic Ripple (Talent).

Items and Rewards

  • The currency limit for Coalescing Visions has been removed.
    • Developers’ note: Especially since the removal of the unique cap on Vessels, we’ve seen a lot of feedback about the inventory clutter of multiple Vessels. By removing the cap on Coalescing Visions, players should now feel free to buy Vessels from Wrathion as needed, rather than stockpiling them in bags.
  • Cache of the Black Empire will award 12,500 Coalescing Visions instead of a Vessel of Horrific Visions and 2,500 Coalescing Visions.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented Manifesto of Madness’ on-use effect from working in Mythic and Mythic Keystone Dungeon difficulties.

      • Twilight Devastation’s effectiveness has been reduced in situations where it strikes more than 5 targets. It has been changed as follows:

        • Shrinks in radius each time it damages a target above 5, causing it to disappear after hitting 10 targets.

      • The Formless Void’s Rank 3 (Essence) Minor Power should no longer break Rogues out of stealth.

    • Corrected an issue where Vision of Perfection (Essence) Rank 3 Minor Power’s effect was removed when entering an Arena match.

N’Zoth Assaults

  • Added a portal to exit the Pools of Power after defeating Vil’raxx in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Timewalking

  • [With regional restarts] Updated player health, damage, and healing scaling to compensate for Azerite Essences and Corruption.
    • Developers’ note: Timewalking is meant to be largely gear-agnostic, allowing players with different progression and even different levels to group together. We’ve generally added hidden modifiers to offset the power of special systems like Legion’s artifact weapons while still allowing them to function, but had not done so for recent Battle for Azeroth systems, causing large imbalances in power between endgame players with Corruption and Essences.

To solve this issue, we changed them to not place players in combat immediately. However, this had the unintended side effect of breaking player expectations around tab-targeting Explosive Orbs, so we’re reverting their threat-generation behavior and trying an alternate solution.

Dungeons and Raids

  • Ashvane Warden
    • The ground visual for Lockdown should remain visible when Projected Textures is disabled in the System Settings menu.
  • Ashvane Warden
    • The ground visual for Lockdown should remain visible when Projected Textures is disabled in the System Settings menu.

Items and Rewards

  • Legion Raids and Dungeons
    • [With regional restarts] Legacy loot rules are now in place for Legion raids and dungeons.
      • Developers’ note: Standard encounters drop an amount of loot scaled by the amount of players in the raid, which results in fewer pieces for players who defeated encounters in small groups or as a solo player. In Legacy loot rules, raid and dungeon encounters will drop a fixed quantity of class-agnostic loot, regardless of the group size.

Faster cloak empowerment and the increase in the droprate of Echoes of Ny’alotha are now live in this region.

Here are the new hotfixes for the day.

Classes

  • Classes
    • Warlock
      • [With regional restarts] Soul Leech grants an absorb for 4% of damage dealt when engaged in combat with enemy players (down from 8%).
        • Developers’ note: Soul Leech will continue to have a cap of 10% of the Warlock’s maximum health.
      • Destruction
        • [With regional restarts] The effectiveness of Flashpoint (Azerite Trait) has been reduced by 75% when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 50%).
  • Items and Rewards
    • [With regional restarts] The effectiveness of Lingering Psychic Shell has been reduced by 70% when engaged in combat with enemy players (was 50%).
  • Azerite Essences
    • [With regional restarts] The effectiveness of Vitality Conduit’s health transfer has been reduced by 30% when engaged in combat with enemy players.
  • Corrupted Items
    • [With regional restarts] Ineffable Truth (Corruption Effect) no longer reduces the cooldown of Gladiator’s Medallion (PvP Talent).

Hey everyone! Below are the hotfixes from today:

WoW Classic

  • The Blue Scepter Shard, Green Scepter Shard, and Red Scepter Shard quest items are now Epic quality.
